OUR STORY
Sarah Prime grew up in the local area and has been doing youth work in Gracemount since 2004. In 2010 she set up a charity called Switch which was created to help reach the young people of the Gracemount housing scheme for Christ. Its aim was to use sport and other activities to provide opportunities for each young person to hear about Jesus and his life-transforming gospel. Switch took its name from Ezekiel 11, where God promises to 'switch' hearts of stone for hearts of flesh.
In 2013 Switch went into partnership with 20schemes. 20schemes exists to plant and revitalise healthy, gospel-centred churches in Scotland’s housing schemes. The combination of the existing relationships and experience in Gracemount that Switch had, together with the experience, resources, and training that 20schemes has, provided a great opportunity and a great foundation on which to plant a church.
In 2014 Andy and Sarah Prime began spending time training with 20schemes at Niddrie Community Church. In 2015 they then began to communicate the vision and gather a team of people who would move into Gracemount and form the launch team for the plant. Gracemount Community Church eventually had its first Sunday service on Easter Sunday, April 16th, 2017.
In the years since that launch our church has grown and changed in loads of different ways. But we’re committed to remain loyal to the vision to be a church in Gracemount that reaches the people of Gracemount with the good news of Jesus. And our hope is that we’ll increasingly be a church that’s established and trusted in our community, and that sees people from all the increasing diversity of our community transformed through meeting Jesus.
