Sometimes being involved in a church feels like fighting on the front lines. However, often it’s the privilege of being in the front row spectating what the Lord’s doing. And since we’ve launched there’s been countless times we could invite you in by saying, ‘Come and see what the Lord has done.’ And the exciting things that we get to witness are the fruit of the generosity of many, and the prayers of many more.
As a small church in a deprived area, we’ve been dependent on outside help to finance what we do. Many individuals and churches have been massively generous in supporting us financially, and for that we’re hugely thankful to God.
Initially, when GCC launched in 2017, this is how our finances worked:
Giving from GCC Members covered our day-to-day ministry costs.
Giving from supporters out-with GCC covered our staff salary costs.
As we’ve grown we’ve started to cover more of our own costs. So, in our 2023 budget GCC contributed £10k towards our salary costs. In 2024 that contribution increased to £12.5k. In 2025 that contribution increased to £20k. Our hope is, Lord-willing, to be able to increase that contribution from GCC year-on-year.
Some church-plants are self-sufficient as soon as they launch, or at least within the first few years. But given the socio-economic area in which we’ve planted and the financial status of many people in our church, a church like ours would never be able to afford a full-time pastor, let alone a staff-team, which have proved so invaluable to the health and growth of our church family.
We do hope that we continue to mature and grow. And our prayer is that a significant part of that maturing is members of GCC growing in gospel-generosity, both to our own church and the gospel around the world. But for now, we remain tremendously grateful for your gospel-generosity, and for your faithfulness in that over the long-haul.
